Birmingham City failed casino bid
Birmingham City Football Club hopes to build a new stadium with money funded by a new Super Casino have been dashed today after the city council opted to support a rival bid from the Birmingham NEC.
Birmingham FC had hoped the local council would recommend their bid for consideration by the governments advisory panel, which will go on to select one site for the first Super Casino in the UK. But despite repeated assurances from chief executive, Karen Brady of Birmingham FC, that the clubs bid was superior to that of the Birmingham NEC, the local council disagreed, and today voted in favour of the rival bid.
Speaking after the decision, Birmingham council leader Cllr Mike Whitby said: We believe that in recommending the Birmingahm NEC bid we have created the best opportunity of winning the bid for a regional Super Casino for the city of Birmingham.
