Glasgow enters race for UK Super Casino
Following hot on the heels on Sheffield, Manchester, London and Blackpool, Glasgow enters the race to build a UK Super Casino in the harbour redevelopment scheme, developers are launching a bid for the UK’s first ‘super casino’ license it has now transpired that the city of Glosgow is now the front runner in the race to win the governments approval. According to The Herald newspaper, one of Scotlands leading news papers in Glasgow, the city is understood to have been short listed as a suitable place for the Super Casino. That means the city will now battle against the likes of Blackpool, Manchester and London’s Millennium Dome to win backing from the government for its proposal. Currently, under the Gambling Act 2005, only one Las Vegas style Super Casino is allowed in the UK, along with 8 large casinos and 8 small new casinos. The City Glasgow has entered two bids, one from Glasgow Rangers Football club, and the other one from harbour developers Peel Ports, the two are working in conjunction with American casino operators MGM Mirage. Both bids envisage casinos with thousands of slot machines and hundreds of gaming tables like Blackjack, Roulette, Poker, and so forth.
